New technology produces tremendous results in cardiac patients Chronic angina suffers can now turn to a highly effective, safe, non-invasive and affordable way to vastly improve their condition through a breakthrough treatment program available only at the Desert Heart Physicians Medical Group Inc. which utilizes the state-of-the-art EECP machine (Enhanced External Counterpulsation), the only one of its kind in the Coachella Valley. “We are proud and excited to offer EECP treatment, which has already produced tremendous results in our cardiac patients since we acquired this amazing technology in late 2002, comments Dr. Narasimha Rao, M.D., F.A., C.C. and Medical Director, Desert Heart Physicians Medical Group, Inc. “Our team of Board-certified cardiology specialists views the EECP device as a very exciting and promising advancement in cardiovascular care, and we are encouraged by the remarkable and rapid successes our patients have been experiencing with their EECP treatment programs” The EECP device, currently FDA-approved and Medicare-approved for treatment would not be candidates for angioplasty or coronary bypass surgery, and/or for those who do not wish to undergo an invasive procedure. Use of the EECP improves circulation by the inflation and deflation of billows wrapped around the legs and thighs, timed to the patient’s heart’s contractions as displayed on a EKG monitor. The procedure, which lasts an hour per session, allows the patient to lie comfortably on a bed, watching television or relaxing. Treatment consists of consecutive one-hour office visits 5 days a week for seven weeks, for a total of 35 hours of treatment. Dr. Rao points out that patients who undergo treatment typically “begin to see dramatic results within two or three weeks, and sustained benefits can be expected to last for a year or more.” Under the provisions of the Medicare coverage, if symptoms of chronic angina later resurface, repeat treatment can be undergone. In addition to the great benefits to chronic angina sufferers, individuals who are recovering from congestive heart failure can also benefit enormously from EECP treatment, an important application which will be receiving Medicare approval in the near future. “Because our group is dedicated to staying at the forefront of research and technology in cardiovascular medicine,” says Dr. Rao, “we at Desert Heart Physicians are truly delighted to add this phenomenal new tool to our comprehensive range of cardiovascular care which can truly enhance the health and quality of life for cardiac patients in the Coachella Valley”.
